Mira Road : In a swift and commendable operation, the Crime Branch Unit 1 attached to the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate has successfully arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Salim Chaudhary, within 48 hours of registration of the crime. The accused was allegedly involved in robbing a 72-year-old woman, Fatima Juwale, and holding her hostage for eight hours in her own residence.

The accused, a resident of Mira Road, reportedly gained entry into the victim's house by posing as an electrician. He brutally assaulted the old woman and stole four gold bangles worth over ₹5 lakhs before fleeing the scene.

According to police officials, the accused had previously visited the victim's house to distribute New Year calendars and had gathered information about her living alone. He used this information to plan the robbery.

The accused, who worked at a jewelry store in Mira Road, reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he had lost ₹2 to 3 lakhs in a online betting app and was facing financial difficulties.

During the incident, the accused had reportedly made some calls through his mobile phone from the victim's residence. Acting upon this important information received from the victim, the crime branch police used tower records to track the accused's mobile phone location after leaving the crime scene, leading them to the Flower Valley complex in Mira Road, where the accused resided.

After committing the crime, the accused attempted to conceal his identity by wearing a burkha and taking an auto-rickshaw to his residence. However, his efforts to evade detection were thwarted by CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity, which captured his movements and ultimately led to his arrest.

The quick arrest was made possible by the diligent efforts of the Crime Branch Unit 1 incharge Aviraj Kurade and his team, who worked tirelessly to gather evidence and track down the accused within 48 hours. The police's prompt action has brought relief to the victim and her family.
