Vasai Father-Son Suicide Case: Diary and CDR Reveal Surprising Twist

CCTV footage of incident at Bhayandar Railway Station

Vasai :The Vasai Railway Police have cracked the case of the mysterious suicide of Harish Mehta (60) and his son Jai Mehta (30), who died by suicide by lying down before a running train at Bhayander railway station during first week of July. According to GRP officers, the father was suffering from depression, and his son was troubled by his secret inter-faith marriage, and his first wife was threatening to defame him.

Jai Mehta was married to a South Indian girl a few months ago, but he had been in a secret relationship with a Muslim girl for the past 10 years. Sources said he was married with her but he kept this relationship hidden from his family and society due to fear of rejection.

However, when Jai's first wife discovered his secret relationship, she confronted him and pressured him to leave his second wife. Meanwhile, the second wife also found out about Jai's affair, leading to arguments and tension.

The police found a diary in Jai's office at Marol (Andheri), where he apologized to both his wives in letters. The case was further confirmed through the analysis of Jai's mobile phone call details and statements from both wives.

The officials had found messages and chats exchanged with his first wife. The chats revealed that Jai’s first wife had been threatening to defame him in society for ruining her life by not taking her home, as she belonged to a different religion and then marrying another woman in 2023.

The police investigation, led by Senior Police Inspector Bhagwan Dange, revealed that Jai and his father were afraid that if their community found out about the situation, they would face social rejection and disgrace. This fear led them to take the drastic step of ending their lives.

A police officer said "We have registered an accidental death report and will file the report based on the statements of the son’s wives and relatives”.
