MBMC Proposes New Dialysis Center to Meet Growing Demand
The Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is planning to establish a new 20-bedded dialysis center at Penkarpada to cater to the increasing number of dialysis patients in the City. Recently, the Civic Administration has passed a resolution regarding the same. The proposed center aims to provide quality and timely dialysis facilities to citizens.
Presently, the existing 50 bedded Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Hospital at Mira Road is functioning 24×7 under Public Health Department of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, The hospital is currently serving 400-450 dialysis patients per month, will be augmented by the new center. Medical services are provided mainly for maternal and child patients through this hospital. Also, the work to start a new dialysis center in the mortuary section of the said hospital is in the final stage.
The hospital's dialysis unit has been operational since 2012, with a team of medical officers (Nephrologist) and technicians working on an honorary basis. Presently, 10 to 14 dialyses machines are operational in the hospital. Although in a working state, most of the units are old and often develop technical snags.
The MBMC has decided to invite proposals from interested social organizations to run the new dialysis unit through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. The selected organization will be provided with necessary space, water, and electricity by the Municipal Corporation. The dialysis machines required for the unit will be purchased through CSR funds, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1.25 crore.
If no social organization comes forward to run the center, the MBMC will consider approving an administrative resolution to operate the facility directly. The new center is expected to incur monthly operational costs of Rs. 6,00,000, which will cover manpower expenses.
This initiative is part of the MBMC's efforts to enhance healthcare services for its citizens, particularly in light of the growing population, which now exceeds 12 lakhs. The new dialysis center will help alleviate the inconvenience faced by dialysis patients in the city and provide them quality and timely facilities.
